What is SEO?
It’s pretty obvious now that SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is an important factor when thinking about a new website or maintaining a neglected site, getting to the number 1 spot on Google is the goal but as you are probably aware this isn't always possible.

So, basically there are two sides of SEO, onsite and offsite, onsite is like house keeping making sure everything is tidy, where it should be and correctly labelled. Offsite is link building, ie getting other (quality) websites to link to yours.

Below are a few tips for onsite SEO:

Domain name - it helps if a specific keyword is in the domain name but don’t shoehorn a keyword in if it detracts from the brand name and image

Valid HTML & CSS - making sure everything is correct, tags, Meta etc

Keywords (words used when searching for websites) - research keywords and use them in the page content but don’t over stuff them remember at the end of the day your writing for human consumption

<H> tags - include keywords within the heading tags

Page titles - have unique page titles for each page

Internal linking – linking within your site using keyword anchor text is important

Content – clean fresh original content, search engines love this so create lots

Image Alts – apply image alts to all of your images using keywords and ensure images are named correctly i.e. cheeseburger.jpg is much better than img8.jpg.
